The latest 5G Market Snapshot from GSA highlights steady global progress in 5G deployment and device availability.

By the end of October 2025, GSA had identified 647 operators in 191 countries and territories investing in 5G through trials, spectrum acquisition, planning, deployment or commercial launches. Of these, 384 operators in 143 markets had launched or soft-launched at least one 3GPP-compliant 5G service. There are 358 operators offering 5G mobile services and 175 providing fixed wireless access — meaning nearly half of all active 5G operators now deliver fixed wireless access.

Momentum is also building for 5G standalone networks, with 192 operators investing in public 5G standalone and 95 having launched or soft-launched services.

In terms of spectrum, the C-band remains the most widely supported for both network deployments and devices, alongside 26/28 GHz, 700 MHz, 2.5 GHz and 2.1 GHz bands.

The 5G device ecosystem continues to expand rapidly, with 3,777 announced devices — a 25% rise year-on-year — and 3,377 now commercially available. This includes more than 2,000 5G phones, reflecting a 27% annual rise. The data underscores the continuing maturity and diversification of the global 5G landscape.

Of those, 361 operators in 134 countries and territories had launched or soft-launched at least one 3GPP-compliant 5G service.

345 operators in 136 countries have launched or soft-launched 5G mobile services.

 173 operators in 77 countries and territories had launched or soft-launched 3GPP-compliant 5G fixed wireless access services — just over 47.9% of those with launched 5G services
 18 operators had announced soft launches of 5G networks
 177 operators are identified as investing in public 5G standalone (including those evaluating, testing, piloting, planning and deploying as well as those that have launched 5G standalone networks). Additionally, nearly 200 other companies were awarded priority access licenses in the US auction of CBRS spectrum, which could potentially be used for 5G.

The December 2024 report provides an updated snapshot of global public network and operator activities. As of November 2024, 833 operators offer LTE broadband and mobile services, including 445 operators with public fixed wireless access networks. Additionally, 602 operators actively use FDD spectrum, and 400 are investing in LTE-Advanced technologies, with 361 networks launched.

In 5G developments, 620 operators across 183 countries are investing in tests, pilots, and deployments. Of these, 343 operators in 126 countries have launched commercial 5G services, including 66 operators with 5G standalone networks. The report also highlights 1,603 private LTE or 5G network deployments globally.

The GAMBoD spectrum database tracks mobile spectrum assignments for 245 countries, providing insights into spectrum usage and technology adoption. It reveals a notable growth in advanced LTE and 5G technologies. The data emphasizes the ongoing expansion of mobile broadband infrastructure worldwide.

This is our January 2024 update on the status of spectrum auctions and assignments around the world. The report has been updated since December 2023 to reflect activities related to the release of spectrum.

GSA has a large Spectrum Group that is active in all regions and is aligned along ITU lines; it is authoring reports about different spectrum areas from low- and mid-band to high-band frequencies.

The auction calendar includes all forthcoming mobile spectrum auctions and assignments known to GSA. Auctions and assignments are only included when a definite decision to assign the spectrum has been announced. Spectrum under consideration or consultation for assignment is not included.

Auctions and assignments are removed from the calendar if GSA finds evidence that the assignment process has been completed. Ongoing processes with no formal end date — for example, the administrative award of licences available on simple application — are included in advance of the opening of applications, but are removed once the process has been opened.

A list of recently completed auctions and assignments is also provided for reference.

The latest data from GSA showed that, as of the end of December 2023, 824 operators have commercially launched public LTE networks offering broadband fixed wireless access and/or mobile services. Within this, 436 operators have launched public LTE fixed wireless access services (excluding those offering MiFi or dongle services only) and 795 operators offer public mobile LTE services.

In addition:

• 165 operators have been identified as actively using (either deploying or have launched) TDD spectrum for LTE services
• 602 operators have been identified as actively using (either deploying or have launched) FDD spectrum for LTE services
• 398 operators are investing in one or more LTE-Advanced technologies, with 357 networks identified as launched

In 5G services, GSA has identified:

• 582 operators in 173 countries and territories that have been investing in 5G networks in the form of tests, pilots, licence acquisitions, planned and actual deployments
• Of those, 302 operators in 113 countries and territories have launched commercial 3GPP-compatible 5G services (mobile or fixed wireless access)
• 121 operators are identified as investing in 5G standalone for public networks (including those evaluating, testing, piloting, planning or deploying as well as those that have launched 5G standalone networks).
• GSA has catalogued 46 operators as having deployed or launched 5G standalone in public networks.

There are now 1,279 customers deploying private mobile networks based on LTE or 5G. This report highlights these findings included in GSA’s NTS database, as well as Opensignal network speed data.

Within this, 437 operators have launched public LTE fixed wireless access services (excluding those offering MiFi or dongle services only) and 795 operators offer public mobile LTE services.

In 5G services, GSA has identified 582 operators in 173 countries and territories that have been investing in 5G networks in the form of tests, pilots, licence acquisitions, planned and actual deployments. This is an increase of five operators since the previous update in October.

As of the end of November 2023, there are now 1,279 customers deploying private mobile networks based on LTE or 5G. This report highlights these findings included in GSA’s NTS database, as well as Opensignal network speed data.
